The last time an artist was so prolific in writing original, beautiful melodies, Lennon and McCartney were still writing songs together. On "JCN", Ryan's melodies are original, refreshing, simple yet eloquent. It's a talent that few songwriters have today. I've listened to "JCN" a thousand times and still can't wait to queue it up for listening again and again. Recently purchased "Cold Roses." Not quite as country as "JCN", but the songwriting and melody on this 2-disc set is superior than 99% of the ear candy playing on commercial radio stations these days.
I bought this CD because I loved "Trains" and "The Hardest Part" when I heard them on the radio. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the rest of the CD is just as good. "Trains" and "The Hardest Part" are the fastest-tempo, most rocking songs on the album. The other songs are more quiet and slower-tempo but sound great. No filler songs. Easy to pop it into the CD player and listen to every song from start to finish.
Ryan Adams is probably the best songwriter/musician no one will ever hear. He stays clear of the mainstream and that is what makes his music so unique.
great album, great artist
This is a good solid country record. It is almost chilling how much he sounds like Gary Stewart. If you are a Gary Stewart fan, you should buy this cd. His lyrics are unique and he is carrying on a sound that only a few could ever carry. Buy this cd and enjoy it.
This is one of the best cd that ive heard in a long time. cold roses was awsome and this one doesn't let you down. it reminds of adams whiskeytown days, which if you cant have whiskeytown why not have ryan adams and the cardinals.
"The Hardest Part" and "Hard Way To Fall" are the best songs on the album
