I have seen Magee Payne in concert and wasn't that impressed, but it was at the Aardvark. Then you had to cover a Whiskeytown song on your cd. Not cool. Being a Whiskeytown fan and a fan of songwriting as well, I believe creativity is the source of music. Covering a song that is barely 5 or 6 years old is lame. If you wanted to cover one, why not pick something vague from guys like Woody Guthrie, Hank Snow, or Jimmie Rodgers. Or better yet, try writing your own.

I'm betting that "grow up" is not an English major! Covering Reckless Kelly songs at the same bars they play is sack licking. Thats like Bleu Edmondson playing a roger Creager song like everclear. Bleu would never do that because thats taking someones song that they wrote and getting attention for it. Whiskeytown's 16 days is ok to do live but not on the CD. Remember, this is not a cover band. Grow up have you ever seen a real show!

All I can do is laugh at "not a poser". The point of covering someone's song is to show respect and have the chance to introduce new fans to that person's or group's song and has nothing to do with originality. I would be interested to see if "not a poser" can mention a group that does not do a single cover in concert or on a CD. I have to say it sounds like a bit of jealousy based on someone's own shortcomings.

I understand Reckless Kelly is one of your influences, but covering there songs at shows is sack licking. Also, why did you cover 16 days by whiskeytown? They were a good band but, again, stop sack-licking. I am very surprized and definalty lost a lot of respect for the Braun brothers from reckless Kelly for actually taking part in something like this project. Lets be original people!!!

The CD is one of the better ones that I have picked up in a long time. The songs just seem to flow...one right after another, and you don't have to fast forward to the next song like on some of the other disks I have recently purchased. I have enjoyed it guys... and I give you five stars!

I agree with Critical @ Aardvark, the music at The Aarvark sounds terrible, in fact the entire venue is terrible. On the other hand, the Magee Payne Cd is quite good so you should look into it. As far as the live show in concerned, Magee has restructured apparently to a four piece (now minus the fiddle) and the last two shows that I have seen, they have rocked out! It kind of reminds me of some boys from Oklahoma...

Saw Magee at the Aardvark and wasn't too impressed, but then the Aardvark is possibly the worst live music venue in the State of Texas, so I'd like to give him another chance at different venue.
