Here's the deal. I can go on and on about how great this guy is. I could talk about his high energy live show. I could tell you how great his songwriting skills are. I could describe this guy as the nicest guy in the world, and let you know that he is truly a humble musician. I could talk about songs like "Backslider Blues" and "Proud Souls" and how they are songs people will be singing 20 years from now. I could tell you that his voice just sounds like home and makes you remember songs you have never heard. I could address the fact that he is the real deal and could give two sh*ts about selling out and becoming commercial like those "other" artists we know...BUT the fact of the matter is you will never know unless you buy the CD and/or attend his show. Trust me, this guy is a modern day Townes and Willis Alan with all the energy and sound of REK, JJW, and Steve Earle. For God's sake if you are reading this buy the CD. Trust me, you WILL NOT regret it!!!!!!

It is good to see the scene of music is heading in the direction it is. With Jason and The Stragglers and Cross,The people in Stephenville support you and hope nothing but the best. I have seen this band at City Limits and the Ardvark, If you have not seen this band or have the Album yet run and go get it. The song Proud Souls is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion.

Jason Boland is one of the most talented musicians around. This album proves it! The only thing that can top the album is seeing the band live. They put on a great show. Keep up the good work and I'll keep supporting the Red Dirt scene!

Wonderful song writer ... makes me want to check out the "red dirt" music scene a little more in the future. I think all of us here crave more of the "real thing" in our music ... Jason Boland delivers with PEARL SNAPS ... "Cheap bourbon whiskey and pearl snaps are two things that stay the same" ... I can feel the hole in my left boot draggin' the sawdust floor dancing to this tune. It's time these brave souls are afforded the respect and admiration of the music world ... The musicianship on this record is superb ... great mix ... Takes some getting used to but I'm learnin' as fast as I can ... Jason has character in his voice ... livin the songs I suppose ... Great work boys - keep up the good work ...

One of the perks of working for the campus newspaper at OSU is that you get to see, and write about, Stillwater's music. Boland and the Stragglers appreciate the biased publicity almost as much as I do their music. Their music, a mix of Robert Earl Keen's storytelling lyrics and Bob Wills' Texas saloon sound, is going to define this genre of music one day. Catch these guys and appreciate their songs while you can, because they are about to outgrow a bunch of their favorite places to play.

Would just like to say, I had a great time at Lucy's in Austin on Saturday night. Both bands Jason Boland and The Stragglers and Cross Canadian Ragweed have proven to me that people of their stature are as kind and generous as anyone out there. They are also without a doubt, the two best bands I have seen in a very long time. Wish you guys all the best and Good Luck!!! P.S. Jason, loved the show, but try to work the crowd excitement a little more. Good Luck at Future Shows.

Hey Wormy Dog McCoy, I know this is a reviews forum, but I have some stuff I think would interest you. Email me at [email protected]. I apologize to everyone for sending this "review" out like this, but there was no other way I could respond to McCoy....

I somehow knew that I would regret the night that I recorded Boland playing solo acoustic at the wormy dog. I got a lot of enjoyment out of listening to the songs, and as everyone knows, if you have a good CD, you're gonna play it for your buddies, then you burn them a copy, then they burn their friends a copy. And in todays's world, it eventually ends up on napster. My bootleg masterpiece of over 40, yes that's right, forty songs, has been reduced to a handful of poorly encoded, mislabeled, and inappropriate songs. Jason Boland should not be judged by what I allowed into public. I question why Heather would further this abomination of decency :) with her review.; It's like her shouting out "I bought a Hustler at Hastings and after examining it closely, I found that I did not like it and I hope that larry flynt's next magazine won't contain that type of depravity" If you could hear the entire set of bootlegs, you would appreciate Jason's abilities as a performer and songwriter rather than judging him on what someone decided to leave out in the open for Napster. Jason is innocent, I am not. If you have a problem with it, I don't really care but if you want to vent, try [email protected]

Jason Boland is one of the best preformers out there. He is a crowd pleaser and lets out a lot of positive energy. If you have never seen a show i highly recommend that you do. They are awesome. Everyone in the band that is.
