Pearl Snaps
If you think Roger Creager, Owen Temple, Cory Morrow, or even Pat Green is good, you better buy this CD. Jason Boland and the Stragglers are simply the best thing to come out of Oklahoma since I-35!!!!

Artist Review
I have always loved Texas Music aand for a long time didn't want to like artists that play our music but aren't grom Texas. When I picked up "Pearl Snaps" I changed my mind. These guys are fantastic! There is a new REK and it ain't Pat Green, it's a kid named Jason Boland from Stillwater Oklahoma!

Pearl Snaps
This album is a fresh alternative to the stale, pop-like, top 40 refuse played on the radio. Jason Boland is a songwriter who puts soul and raw emotion into his songs, such as "Proud Souls" and "Backslider Blues", yet also manages to pull out some old honky tonk sing along songs such as "Pearl Snaps". This CD is a must have for all fans of Americana music.

I have to agree with Michelle. I met the guys at the LJT Fest this year and got to play with them around the campfires. It was great to play my own songs and have them play along. They were very real, talented and gracious. I went to see them at Adair's in Dallas on Thursday the 15th and found out even more. Not only is Jason an incredible singer/songwriter but the band blew me away. The crowd was wild all night. A highlight for me was discovering that Roger Ray not only plays dobro, as he did at LJT but plays a mean steel and lead guitar. Dana Hazards fiddle work added much and the band kept us all hopping. A great bonus for me was on my ride home. I live a ways North and listened to their CD. Jason and The Stragglers also have some ballads and introspective songs which are great. There is not a bad song on this CD. We all love good Texas Country and even though these boys are from Oklahoma I think we should adopt them.

Artist Review
Recently a friend of mine handed me a CD and told me I had to listen to it. Being a Robert Earl, Jack Ingram, and Pat Green fan, I am always interested in listening to similar sounding artists. If you have heard Jason Boland, you KNOW you are listening to an artist that is going to be around a LONG time. The songwriting on "Pearl Snaps" is superior to most of the Texas songwriters out there playing in the same bars each night. I own a lot of the music on this site, and as much as I like Cory Morrow, Owen Temple, Roger Creager, Max Stalling, Phil Pritchett, and Dub Miller I think Jason is a far better writer. In fact, I have been listening to Pat Green and Jack Ingram a lot lately, and I must admit Jason Boland beats those guys hands down. I haven't been this excited over a CD since REK's second live album.

This is the first cd from these "boys for Oklahoma" A monicker being used to refer to bands out of their hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma(also including The Great Divide, Red Dirt Rangers and Cross Canadian Ragweed). The band on this album, with the help of Lloyd Maines, sound like they've been doing this awhile with fantastic lead guitar work by Roger Ray and solid-as-a-rock rhythym section. Boland's insight and quality songwriter ability really show through on "Backslider Blues" "Telephone Romeo" and my favorite "Somewhere Down in Texas"(on which "Texas Sweetheart" Terri Hendrix appears). His lightheartedness makes "The Drinking Song" "No Damn Good" and the title cut "Pearl Snaps" all toe-tapping, beer drinking good times. A very fine cd in the tradition of Robert Earl Keen from these young "Boys from Oklahoma".
