Steve Earle
Artist Review
Steve Earle, as an artist since his career began, will always be a "5 Star" guy, but Transcendental Blues gets a 3 here because of the scarcity of those great story songs he's a master of and because it sounds like he enjoys singing less and less as time goes. I miss those fiery and impassioned vocal deliveries that made his 80's releases so great. He just sounds tired and bored these days. I'm still a fan and always will be.He says he's taking some time off from making records for a while and maybe that's what he needs...God Bless Steve Earle

Artist Review
Steve Earle has become probably the most essential artist in all of contemporary music. His shows are the equal of Springsteen in his prime, yet his music has more diversity and in the end even more power. He can do country, rock, bluegrass, folk, even grunge, and do them all well. His current version of the Dukes is the best and most versatile ever. My only complaint about Friday's show at the Riviera in Chicago is that he didn't play as many of his quieter and often best songs. Otherwise, the show lasted 2 =1/2 hours without a wasted note or a weak song. He has too much good material to choose from so its hard to get all of one's favorites into one show. His material from his first 2 albums has gained in stature from his versions with the current band. Everything from Transcendental Blues sounds great. His son, Justin did a fine solo warmup. I was truly impressed. I wish more of the crowd would have paid attention

02-14-01>have seen Steve live twice in the last 6 months, been listening since 86' with the release of Guitar Town. He hasn't put out a bad album, so take your pick and buy one and then see him live if you can.You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!

I dusted off my copy of Steve Earle's "Train A Comin'" a few weeks ago and I can't bring myself to push the eject button. If you are a fan of Earle's then break out your copy today. If you don't have a copy, buy one.

Saw Steve two nights running at London's Shepherds Bush Empire! 15 and 16 Sept 2000 ..... both nights were excellent ... Sat show ran an extra half hour and included Bottle Rockets, Stones and Beatles covers .. plus Time (Has Come Today) from Steal This Movie! Current band does great justice to the "Rock" Steve Earle sound. Eric Roscoe Ambel was outstanding. 5 star gigs! Biased I'm afraid I was probably one of the first people in the UK to buy Guitar Town ... What a great highway its been. Chris Copeland - Born on 16 Jan 1955!

The Essential Steve Earle CD is a must-have. Cover-to-cover, one of the best ones I've got.
