the new song "a little bit" is prolly one of the best songs Ingram has written. i have yet to hear any of his other new songs but i am hoping for them to be as good as "a little bit."

Jack is taking me to new places man. If you dig Americana music, this is almost as good as it gets.

I've been a Jack fan since 1994 when a co-worker dragged me to see him at a tiny bar in Leon Springs, TX. I was impressed by his and the bands style, music and lyrics. I would then catch him and the Beat Up Ford band from time to time but it was a few years before took the plunge into Texas music. The first CD I bought was "Live at Adair's". This has got to be one of the best all time live albums by anyone--the recording, the music and attitude is captured perfectly. Is it possible to wear down a CD? I think I have with that one. I now own all of his CD from beginning to the latest--Electric. I still feel that "Live at Adair's" is his best yet. I've caught his shows over the years and have been somewhat dissapointed by the transistion. No more fiddle, less country and more rock. The change really happened when he signed with the big boys and put out "Hey You". It's still good but not the same Jack that drew me in and not the same music that started the whole explosion that is being witnessed now. But that is probably what happens when you go from being independant to joining the big leagues and having to eat crow with the type of record execs that actually think 'N Sync is band and that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Anyway, you can hear it happening to Pat Green with "Three Days". All in all, I'll always be a Jack Ingram & Beat Up Ford fan but will never stop listening to his earlier stuff.

Electric is a breakthrough album, shaking up the expectations of yet another pleasing offering from the charismatic Jack Ingram, one of the brightest and most daring of the new Texas generation. This album defies classification, but the rigidity of the music industry should take a gamble and let this guy cross over from country to whatever! Wherever he lands, tis rock and roll at its gritty best. The arranging is shocking, the lyrics are tough, the beat is strong on Electric, the talent is deep, and it is precisely as the title advertises: electric. From "Keep On Keepin' On" with its steady determination to the sweet and lonely "Good Night Moon" each track has a surprise for the listener. The grating and discordant surprise of "Pete, Jesus and Me" gives the gospel song a true modern edge, but my favorite is the plaintive "One Lie Away", the soulful lament of one whose path is not easy. Is it biographical? Jack does not choose the simplest path, but his critical success speaks for itself. Not one of these songs can be said to sound like any of the others; the diversification of a true talent is showcased here. It is great to see a talented young artist breaking open the mold of roadhouse Texas music and adding a real edge to the expected country formula. Jack has always been hard to classify, but calling him and his work alternative, roots, Americana or whatever cannot disguise the heart of a rocker for long. This album is a wild offering from a multi-talented artist and represents yet another dimension for Jack Ingram. Thankfully, Electric made it past the mediocrity of the powers that be at Sony Nashville, and the public should be grateful!

I had heard a couple of Jack's songs on the radio and then I seen him LIVE for the first time at Wolfdance 2001 and I've been a fan ever since. Hey You is one of my favorite CD's so when Electric came out I couldn't wait to get a copy of it. This CD is great and Electric is the perfect name for it! It's really hard to pick a favorite song on this CD but I think mine is "I won't go with her" or "We're all in this together" Truthfully the whole CD is great!

i am a huge jack ingram fan, and i love all of his previous cd's. i think that everyone will agree that "hey you" is a great album, and honestly, after such a release, i am rather disappointed with "electric." i agree with ya'll that it is different--not bad, just different. definitely more rock than country, but all in all, a solid release. i am happy that he included "goodnight moon" on this cd--often, when i see mr. ingram in concert, he encores with that song.

Jack has always had a great style on his original and cover tunes, but this album has few highlights. I believe Jack has been better. At first I thought he was trying new things and I respect his choice to venture out in new directions. It just seemed like it was an updated version of his previous albums. Still a fan though. After his last album, I was expecting more.

This album comes the closest to grabbing that special feeling that you get at a Jack Ingram show. It is distored, rough, full of energy and most importantly full of emotion. It is a much better work than Hey You. It is difficult explaining to people what Texas Music is about. It is alot easier explaining what it isn't. However, with this CD you can get a feeling of what it is all about. It is kinda like big ol bowl Austin Baked Beans down at Good Company BBQ in Houston. It has a little bit of everything in it, mixed with a lot of soul and a hand full of love to produce something that you've never heard before; but somehow you have always loved it. I think that there is something about the people who grew up in that City, that gives them a little depth to the soul. Maybe it is the nuturing warmth but people like Jack, REK, Lyle Lovett, Dale Watson, Cory Morrow, etc...have never sold out. They just play what they want...whatever that is. And that, my friend, is what Texas Music is about. To enjoy: Wake up on a hot, sticky, summer morning, don't shave, throw on your most comfortable clothes(dirty of clean), Take this CD, put it in your old pick up truck CD player(that you have rigged to the tape deck with an adaptor), turn it up, grab yourself some Fancy Lawnmower Beer and sit in the Back of your Beat Up Ford and know what Texas Music is all about. ....Now, if we can just get Jack to open up all his Shows with Attitude and Driving; the world would be a better place! Come on Jack hook a brotha up!
