When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Live, Wherever You Are is decent. I mean, how can they regurgetate Live at Gruene Hall. I like the three new songs but is it worth buying. It's probably awesome for people new to Jack, but for people who have been Jack fans for a long while, we expect something more. Hopefully this is just the introduction to new fans and a beginning of new music later on, not old music being re-used.

Jack, has been the best performer live I have ever seen live...EVER!!! The way he interacts with the crowd, and stops the show to give his speeches on what "Real" Country Music is amazing. I've seen him so many times, 7 at Gruene(including "Happy Happy." I preordered that album, and now his new album is the exact same, except for a couple studio tracks, what's up with that? I remember one show in particular, where he flipped the bird, in true Johnny Cash fashion, with his long ole fingers, and basically said screw mainstream country, and even called out Toby Queef!!! And now he's workin with him? What's up with that? We still love you Jack!!!

Got ahold of this thing. Its pretty much Live at Gruene Happy Happy Cd again, so if you have that already pass on this. But the single off this thing is good, and cant wait for the studio album. Its about time Jack got some notice from the masses.

I just got my LIVE Wherever You Are Cd in the mail today. I pre-ordered it from lonestarmusic.com at Gilleys. The New CD is great. Jack's Happy Happy Cd is one of my favorite Jack CD's, with the addition of Wherever You Are, Love You, and YNKMD on this CD is awesome. Last but not least those of you whinning about Jack not releasing a "new studio CD" should read the interview on this site. He will have a new CD out soon. This album is to get his name out there to the rest of the country that haven't caught on yet and our saying man who's this Jack guy, he's pretty good. Keep up the good work Jack here's to a great year in 2006! Brian

Dallas Dave: That was pretty harsh. Give the guy some credit. Most live recordings I have ever heard aren't half as good as the artist's studio albums. Jack's, on the other hand are better. You obviously don't know good music... This cd rocks. Jack is well on his way to the top, and well deserved... Enough said

A little harsh there Dog. But this does make like 4 live records in a row for this guy. Maybe the well is dry. Look for him to record a bunch of songs from Nashville writers next.

I saw Jack on his accoustic motel tour and was blow away. He was a true person and an awesome entertainer all at the same time. His live CD is great and when the new one comes out next week, I'll be in line to buy it. Thanks for all the great music and stories Jack!
