This is an excellent live album. P2 showcases that he's one of Texas' best guitarist. The Full Band's presence is made known on this CD. I highly recommend this CD for every one. Check it out!!!

Tougher Than The Rest is a great album to listen to. I bought the album when it first came out and it's still refreshing to listen to. It reminds me of early Tom Petty. Phil has a way with his words and his songs have meaning. I highly recommend this album to every one. If your a true Phil Pritchett fan you'll enjoy.

Tougher Than The Rest
I love all of P2's other albums so I ordered this one before it was released...After 8 months it still hasn't grown on me...A definite change from his other albums...A change for the worse considering I give 5 stars for his previous works

Tougher than the rest is awesome. I'm having to fight a friend to keep my copy (since she couldn't make the show.) Looking forward to catching a show sometime this summer. Keep it up!

Tougher Than The Rest
Phil Pritchett comes shooting out of the gates yet again with his brand of pop, roots rock, and Latin beats on "Tougher Than The Rest". The opening track growls a bit with it's catchy guitar riff as Phil creates a rebellious rock tone with his voice while declaring the death of country music. Country purists may read too far into this song but he is simply telling it like it is, turn on a country music radio station and one should agree with what's being said. Phil and the Full Band then change gears to the title track, which sounds as if Cake originally hailed from Puerto Rico. Phil has always had a taste for infusing Latin beats into his music and believes that's what separates him from the rest of the current so-called "Texas songwriters" movement. Phil's exactly right, he displays much more versatility then just about anyone else playing on the Texas Music circuit. You can never really pigeonhole his music and I think Phil does it on purpose. "Tougher Than The Rest" finds Pritchett flexing his musical muscles and displaying a willingness to be inventive with melodies and genre jumping arrangements. Phil can always pack a punch with his crisp melodies, which would make Rhett Miller drool. The highlight for this reviewer is the third track God Save The King that is a powerful Elvis fantasy song. With it's harmonica drenched intro and subtle but truly inspiring feel it 's bound to be a classic Americana song. Interestingly enough, Phil brings in the current Texas Music heavy weight Pat Green on a co-write for Woman To Me, Cody Canada of Cross Canadian Ragweed fame on the duet cover of Little Feat's Willin', and also brings in sublime Texas songster Max Stalling on Mexican Restaurant. Phil Pritchett has put forth a very solid album, while none of the songs live up to Meet Me In Las Vegas from his "Phil Comes Alive" CD; it's a very very solid outing. Pritchett is still bringing Beatles and Elvis Costello influences to the singer-songwriter circles usually dominated by the beer guzzling and chanting fans and I salute him for it. This CD can satisfy the Texas Music fans and the Alt-Country fans alike, which really makes this album Tougher Than The Rest.

This album is simply great. Anyone who claims to be a fan of good Texas music cannot explain not having "Tougher Than The Rest" in their collection.

I have to agree with "starfan." P2 is the best of the rest. CCR and P2 are by far and away the most exciting bands around right now. Can't wait to see them in Corpus together at the Concrete Street Amphitheater on October 10. My freinds and I will be there ready to rock. Much Tougher!
