When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

I remember Jack when I was in Dallas years ago, and his success is wonderful, especially considering that he has stayed so true to himself and his craft. I have heard This Is It! and decided that it is a classic. I love to see a Texas native, a humble man, and a great talent succeed. Most who know Jack wish him the best, and I am so glad that this CD is a tribute to his multi-dimensional musical leanings. From radio hits to plaintive ballads to rock flavored love songs, this CD is true artistry.

This is a super CD, one of my favorites from Jack Ingram! He is a master of turning out music that all sounds different and unique, from ballads and sweet songs to hard rocking, hard driving unforgettable songs like Love You! Jack is so different from all the Nashville cookie cutter singers and yet he manages to sound good on the radio, too! I am crazy for This Is It!! And Measure of a Man alone makes this CD a winner!

It truly pains me to listen to any new Jack Ingram, I have tried to listen to his older music just to remind myself of what he was, but all I can hear is "lips of an angel" which should be renamed "shoes of a clown" cause that is what jack has become F###ing clown shoes. Why would you waste your time covering a song the was tremendously popular just a few months before? Did Jack think his feathered and highlighted hair along with his pre-worn jeans would really give the song the edge it needed. Jack, put down the hairspray and go get a job at Burger King, cause that is where you belong.

I am so wrapped up in the new CD and cannot listen to anything else at the moment!! Jack has always been one of the most entertaining and lively performers that I have ever seen, but now I have a great CD to keep me happy in between his Texas shows. I always knew that his talent would take him far away, but I am so delighted that at the shows I have see recently he is the same old Jack, staying for hours to visit with his fans. And still giving his all for the whole show!! I, for one, am glad for Jack Ingram and his new fame, and I cannot see much difference in his presentation. Yeah, this new CD is well-produced and has great songs that are memorable--so what? This guy gives us a true complete musical gift with This Is It! I have been a Jack Ingram fan from the getgo, and will be with him down the road. He doesn't have to stay small time to make me happy, and this CD is proof of that. Any artist has a right to grow, change and develop new music, and I love what I am hearing!!

So long Jack. You were never the most talented, but you more than made up for it with grit and honesty. Now that you've sold out to the big machine, you're gonna be left waiting for the producers to write your songs for you, tell you which ones to play, and oh yeah, there's that great photo shoot. Does that sound like an artist doing his own thing? People trying to justify this release doesn't change facts. Pat Green's been trying tell people that what they hear isn't really what they're hearing; I lose respect for the musician just for this alone more than the fact he's selling his soul. Unlike Green, Jack, you'll probably make it in Nashville just on your beautiful face alone. At least you don't have to worry about that being hurt in the bars anymore since you're now gonna be on neon glittered stages with a head-set while pointing to crowd while you're singing these wonderful Partridge Family laced diamonds that'll be in the bargain bins in 3 years. Good luck amigo; oh yeah, do you still have a beat up Ford for sale?

Great CD! Jack Ingram has provided me with a new CD and a treasure of new favorite songs! Yep, it is a professional and polished CD, and the production is spot on. A great total package of his radio hits and his stories and his ballads. . . lots of music that requires singing along with it!
