No, he's not a Waylon clone...if you're thinking Shooter's in the same vein as Hank,jr's very early years; hold on to your collective asses! Shooter's his own man and his own type of artist. Sure, Waylon and Jessi's blood is in his veins and he honors them both, but there's a breath of fresh air here. This is an exceptional CD...get it and see where "country" music needs to be.
It's about damned time Country Music grew some balls again! Shooter Jennings carries on MR. WAYLON JENNINGS' Outlaw legacy to a new generation of Country Music fans (hell, music fans in general) who needs to be injected with pure adrenaline! Those who are ragging on Shooter (which I suspect is actually one or two misguded souls with multple personality disorders but for the sake of their fragile state we'll refer to them as if they were actually an almost significant number) need to pull their heads out of their asses because their buttcheeks are muffling the sound! Shooter Jennings is the real deal...it's in his blood AND in his music. He most likely won't make the top 40 in radio playlists because he uses his mouth to sing songs rather than kiss programmers' and reviewers' asses. That's all right by me. I'm a fan of Mr. Waylon Mother-Fucking Jennings and that goes for both of them. I play "Put The O Back In Country" every day and I have a second copy in reserve for when this one melts from the heat. Yes, it's that hot! But only people with good taste in music will understand and appreciate it. All others may re-insert their craniums up their rectums.
This is an awesome CD!! Shooter Jennings shows his great ability in song writing. This is music that you just can't quit listening too. I've literally turned off our local country station and listen to this cd every day. 4th of July is a song that literally kicks butt over what's out there in the country music scene. This Cd is highly recommended by me. Shooter Jennings is here to stay folks...might as well face it.
This is a great debut CD from Shooter Smith. Yea - that's right.....let's call him Shooter Smith - 'cause with talent like this he doesn't need the Jennings name to succeed.

everyone dogging on Shooter's lyrics should remember, most of his father's greatest songs were written by other people. Waylon just knew how to pick the songs to sing to suit his style. He wrote some good ones, but I don't think anymore could argue Waylon was a great songwriter.
